Where am I?
Fire up your terminal, you will see your blank prompt and you will probably ask the question, "Where am I?" It is a very common question that you should never be afraid to ask. The answer to that question is rather simple. Simply execute pwd, which stands for "Print Working Directory."
% pwd
/home/joe
Your output will probably be slightly different, but you are most likely inside the /home directory, probably /home/username. This is a natural starting location for the terminal, since you will be doing most of your work in your home directory.
